Brigid looked at him then shut her eyes, the temperature getting impossibly colder. Brigid was trying her best to freeze her emotions, but they kept melting her ice. Maybe it was the heat of his personality that kept melting her shield. He was trying to make her weak. He had to be!

"I'm not sure," she answered honestly, calm on the outside. "But until I figure it out, you can stay here."

"You're still just a human," she said. She wasn't sure if she was trying to convince him or herself. "Humans are supposed to be toys...Nothing more...nothing better...nothing equal to a queen..." She was talking to herself in a low voice, gazing at the sun. It had just started sinking below the waves.
