Kaito was walking the streets, head hanging low, blond bangs in front of his eyes as usual. He wore black and white arm warmers over the many new scars on his arms. It had only been two days since the torture and he felt well...different. Almost like he was crazy for something bloody. But he wasn't a cannibal. He also felt like he was a little bit fine, as if he was meant to feel this. An unknown glee had started to take it's toll on his face and now he was grinning, sharp fang like teeth scaring the crap out of people. His black jeans were so loose they scraped against the ground where his scarred bare feet walked. The shirt he wore had once been a pregnant woman's shirt. You could tell since it said on the front BABY ON BOARD! in bright red letters. The woman who owned it was also pretty big, since the t-shirt was extremely loose on Kaito's fragile and broken frame. Kaito wore his normal jacket as well, even if it were summer time. The black jacket was filled with pockets containing randomly found objects. Ever since the torture he used this more often. His personality had definitely changed over the two days.

Suddenly an aroma reached the grinning Kai's nose. His nose twitched as he smelled....cake? The boy began to drool. Cake hadn't been eaten for years. The last time he'd had cake had been at the foster parents house. It had tasted rather awful, since the mom wasn't much of a cook, but real cake was probably delicious. Kaito walked towards the cafe, now hungry. Reaching the small cafe, his eyes went wide underneathe his bangs and glowed blue as his grin (somehow) got wider.

''So....delicious smelling...I want one.'' He whimpered before heading to the door grinning still. He stared through the window then walked in. Taking a seat, he glanced into the menu with a smile. Reading from it, he saw a picture of a chocolate volcano cake. ''Volcano!!!!!'' He said in total awe before looking to the price. ''100 yen? But I don't have any yen.'' He made a sad face suddenly. ''Well it's obvious. Life's a slice of cake, and that is why I am hungry.'' He put his head on the table with a THUNK.

Rhythm walked inside with a sigh. She noticed someone else was there, but as usual her mind was distracted. She pulled out her bag without even sitting down and began making notes. To most, the notes would appear complete nonsense. To her, they were the only thing that was important.
After making notes, she turned to the person that she had noticed, curious despite herself. "You'll give yourself a headache if you do that," she said.

Kai's head was still on the table as the woman entered. He caught the sound of her walking towards a table near him. Not really paying attention, he heard the sounds of a pencil on paper. Scritiching noises as the woman made notes reached his ears. It reminded him of a familiar sound. The sound of him writing in the notebook of a shinigami perhaps? Oh yes he remembered that event well. His father had died because of a notebook, the one he had written in. Dissmissing it though he noted the noise of the notebook closing and the eerie feel of eyes watching him came out of nowhere. The woman had probably turned to him.

The woman stated something about a headache. Kaito raised his head slowing, looking at her behind two glowing blue eyes. Slowly, he made a grin and placed a hand on the back of his head.

''Heh heh. Really? I'll try not to do it anymore then!'' Kai replied innocently before glancing at the cake from before. ''.....Um....By the way...how long does it take for a person to earn 100 yen?'' He asked.

"It depends what you do," she said. "I don't work. Well, not to earn money I don't. I'm am one of the few fortunate enough to have access to any money I might need."
She didn't say it as if she was showing off, or even particularly happy about it. In fact, to her, the fact that she had money she had little need for was linked to memories that brought great sorrow. She looked up carefully. "Is there a particular reason you need that much?" she asked, being careful so as not to appear too formal despite the fact it was her natural manner.

Kaito usually noticed when somebody wasn't exactly happy. Money seemed to make her actually a little sorrowfull. Although he was insane, he knew when to be a little more soft. His smile turned into a small frown. He put his arm back down.

''I'm sorry if there is anything wrong with that. I think you're lucky for that. There are many people out on the streets unable to get even a simple cake.'' Kai had no idea that was a reference to hiself.

When Rythm asked the question next he brightened a little. Pointing to the picture of the volcano cake he grinned like a small child. ''I'm hoping to try cake for the first time~! Well, kinda the second time, but the first try didn't count since the baker had been really bad at making cake.'' Kaito beamed.

"I see people like that almost every day. But my money comes from the place where I grew up. More particularly, from the owner. But I have the money because he left it to me before he died. I would be happier without it," she said simply.
Rhythm smiled slightly. "Well, I can't get in the way of that," she said, holding back a laugh. "A very wise friend of mine always used to say that you haven't truly lived until you've tasted real cake."
She took out her bag and brought out a few notes. "I can't let you go without a proper taste of cake, after all."

Kaito smiled at that. He had never thought he'd be meeting a kind person today, and yet this girl wasn't cursing at him like the others. He looked to the picture for a second.

''I can't wait~!'' He sighed. ''Sadly I have no yen. It's such a waste if somebody not deserving it has it instead.'' He looked to Rythm again. Noticing the notes he tilted his head a little. ''What are those?'' He asked innocently.

Rhythm smiled at his curiosity. "They're yours," she said laughing. "If you want them, that is." She held out the notes. She wasn't meaning to act as if it was charity. It was just that years ago, someone had done the same to her.

Kaito was very glad somebody was being nice to him today. He had always been beaten down, yet this one didn't seem to notice him to be a little strange. It made the tortured soul feel less crazy. Kai smiled and gently reached out to see the notes being offered to him.

The boy looked to them, blue eyes shimmering by now in joy.

Rhythm felt a bit embarrassed, but only because she was unused to dealing with people. She found it hard not to smile as she passed him the notes.

Kaito was still the reading the notes.

As he read the notes a waitor came out of nowhere and tapped him on the shoulder. Looking up, Kai grinned. The waiter seemed a little bit scared of the smile, but spoke none the less.

''What are you having sir?''

Kaito thought a moment. ''Uh....'' He didn't know if he should order, since he didn't have any money, him living on the streets and all. Washing dishes was kinda fun, but it was time consuming. He was hoping to walk out to the grasslands later today.

Rhythm looked carefully at the waiter before deciding that she could trust him. "Waiter..."
The waiter came over, and she passed him a note that was clearly written in black ink, and not in Rhythm's handwriting. It was signed at the bottom as : 'Sir'. At this the waiter seemed more respectful, and Rhythm sat back in her seat. She handed Kaito some money.
"Take it, please?" she asked him, and it seemed like she was asking for a favour.

(Oh... Sorry, I keep forgetting... It because I'm from quite far away... Rhythm's 'notes' usually mean a sign of varying trust, like they do where I am from... I forget that people here are not from the same place as me)

Kaito looked at the waiter as his attitude change. The note seemed to be important to the man, as he was now much more respectfull than earlier. Where had Rythm found this note? Kai tilted his head.

Kaito looked to the offered money a little hesitant. He wasn't one for charity, but it seemed as if he would be doing this as a favor for Rythm. He nodded, gently taking the yen. Smiling slightly, he felt honoured to be able to have it now. ''Thanks.'' He said, then looked to the waiter again.

The waiter stared at him again. ''Well?''

Kai felt more confident that he was able to pay.

''I'd like this.'' He gestured to the cake. The waiter nodded and looked to Rythm, asking if she wanted anything. Kai was grinning again.

Rhythm smiled and watched. She knew that now the waiter (who before might have done little to help them at all) would do exactly as he was told. It's one good thing about being dragged far away into the country, she thought.

(Err... technically I'm from North Wales, but I haved lived in England all of my life apart from 2 weeks after I was born)
