Looking up at the trees

Rhythm walked through the forest, stopping occasionally to catch her breath. She was beginning to wonder what was going to happen to her. First I come here, then everything seems okay. That's a bad sign, a very bad sign. That usually means something really bad is going to happen. She took out the locket around her neck. " Why did you send me here?" she said to it. "What am I supposed to be here for? Sure I can help solve cases, but you have other plans, don't you? I know you have." She almost threw the locket on the ground, but her hand prevented her. "Damn you! Why can't you just explain something for once!"

Ace was leaning against a tree nearby and saw the whole thing.

"Either you're on one hell of a trip, or something's pretty wrong. What's up?"

Rhythm looked up. "Erm, sorry, you must think I'm kind of mad now, talking to a necklace..." She picked the locket up from where she'd placed it on the ground.

Ace laughed. "Maybe, but madness is just another part of life, right? You take it as it comes. 'Sides, I'm more than a little partial to going crazy occasionally myself."

Not walking closer, but certainly not at all distancing himself, Ace said "So what's with the necklace?"

"Oh, erm, I have a habit of talking to it... It makes me feel as if I'm talking to the person who gave it to me. And that person, if you didn't already guess, I don't particularly like." Rhythm glared down at the necklace. "Since I can't say all this stuff to the person, then I'll say it to the necklace."

"Makes quite a lot of sense really. Enough to make me think you're not mad, so I appologize if you are mad and I'm getting the wrong impression." Ace grinned at her.

"Well, I don't know whether I'm mad or not, so... I'll decide not to take offence." Rhythm said.

The joke was lame, but unexpected so Ace laughed. "Yeah, and you'd leave a lot of people with no way to define their sexuality and with no where to sit."

"Fun." Ace shivered slightly, a headache beginning to set in - he knew what that meant. Ignoring it for now, he said "So, what do you do?"
