"Not everyone," Lana said before she could correct herself.

"No. Some can keep death at bay, but all eventually end." She smiled. "Even I will die one day."

"Yeah. Tha-" Lana cut off, replaying the girls words in her head, "You smell funny...What are you?" Lan whispered.

"I am Shi," she said simply.

"Not who. What." Lana said.

"That is what I am," she said in an eerie voice.

"Death," Lana whispered, "You kill. But who? How? And for the most part, Why?"

"Anyone. Different ways. Because it's beautiful." She answered the questions in order with a cold, flat voice. "I love my dolls. I kill them and make them beautiful and then I make them last forever. I make them my little dolls."

"So then, are you the famous Kira?" Lana asked, "Or just some nutcase who wants to look cool?"

"Neither. I'm a mage who loves death. It's not like I'm a murderer. I kill those who deserve it and those who wish for it."

Lana stared into her eyes, searching for any guilt in there.

There was none.

Lana shrugged. "They say that there is a power. You can see people's true names and lifespans floating above their head, if you have it. If you had this power, could you see mine?" She was truly curious about the question.

Shi's eyes flicked to the space above Lana's head. "The rules have changed because of a certain someone named Ryuk. I can only see what you call yourself, Lana."

Lana smiled quickly, "And my lifeline?"
