Alone

Kana was sitting on the roof of a half destroyed building. He'd never thought of himself as dramatic, but he did do some strange things. Sometimes it hurt too much being alone. When that happened, he had to distract himself. Physical pain was better than mental pain, of course. And he didn't stick with just boring cuts. No, over the course of two weeks, he'd broken two fingers, fractured three ribs, gotten multiple bruises, a concussion, several large gashes, and a bullet wound in his right foot. All his own doing, of course. Though it was hard to see when he wore long sleeves and pants.

" Hey Kana..."

William walked out from behind a pillar and stared up to Kana, he gave a weak smile and jumped up to the roof, taking a seat right next to him.

Kana smiled softly. "Hey," he said. The only visible signs of injury were the fading bruises from his once broken finger. Everything else was hidden.

" What happened to your hand? "

William put his hand around Kana's to examine the broken finger. Seeing the fading bruise he frowned and held him close.

" What did you do to yourself.. "

Kana flinched at the pain from the hug. "I got it during a job," he said casually. "My line of work is dangerous. You know that." He smiled up at him.

William smiled and rubbed Kana's arm, unaware of all the damage he had taken.

Under his sleeve were cuts in neat rows down to his forearm. It stung as the fabric of the shirt rubbed against them. A couple reopened and began bleeding. Not realizing this, Kana leaned against William happily. "I missed you too," he said honestly.

William felt the blood soaking through Kana's sleeve and pulled away for a minute. He stared at his hand and looked at Kana.

" Take off your shirt. "

Realizing that it sounded a bit sexual he rephrased quickly, " Let me see the other wounds "

Kana looked at him in false confusion. "What other wounds?" He looked at his sleeve as if her were surprised. "Oh. I didn't even realize I was hurt there." He shrugged. "It'll heal soon enough."

Kana had tried to shift so that his wounds were hidden, but he seemed to lack that skill. He rolled his eyes at William. "So protective. Calm down, okay? I get hurt all the time."

" But not this bad... If you can with stand something from me, I think you can handle some common job... Just let me see. "

William knew these were from something else, but was clueless to what it truly was

Trying to distract him, Kana made himself look angry. "Stop acting like you care. I'm fine, okay? I can take care of myself!"

Kana looked away, feeling guilty. He knew he cared and it was mean of him to say that...But it was better if William didn't find out about his self mutilation. He'd only blame himself.
