Aveira walked into one of the more stable buildings in the ruins. She pushed a button on the wall and stairs appeared, leading into the basement. She descended quickly into a room that looked like it came straight from a mad scientist's dream home. There were high tech computers, test tubes, jars filled with strange objects and liquids, and more. Aveira ignored all of this, however, and walked straight to a large tank of water in the middle of the room. Inside was a young girl with hair down to her ankles. It was the same color as Aveira's...

Risus had followed her to the ruins, but lost sight of her. "Well, of course. She disappeared into nothingness."

Aveira sighed. She turned around and accidentally knocked over a beaker she hadn't sensed. It hit the ground and a terrible screamed was released. Aveira flinched as the scream was released. Now she'd have to find another one.

Risus jumped. "Holy shit!" He didn't curse often. Well, he hadn't been, at least. In jumping, he hit the button that opened the stairs.

Aveira cocked her head and listened. She couldn't sense the illusion over the stairs...But maybe that was because they hadn't closed over properly?

"Whoa!!" Risus tripped backwards and hit the stairs. "Ouch...ouch...ouch..." he made small noises as he tumbled down and landed in a heap at the foot of the stairs.

Aveira definitely heard that. She walked over to Risus. "You followed me," she pointed out monotonously.

Risus groaned. "What an astute observation."

"Why did you follow me?" she asked curiously.

"Because you're an interesting being, unlike anyone I've ever met. So, I was curious. Plus, THIS," he gesticulated, "will make for great writing material."

Aveira smiled. "As a fellow writer, I can understand your curiosity. You may use this as material." She cocked her head to the side. "Would you like to see what I looked like when I was born?" she asked curiously. "I was never a baby, you know. I'm not like you humans, staring out weak and pathetic."

Risus mumbled some protest about how he wouldn't be weak or pathetic as soon as he got his hands on that one particular book, but then cleared his throat and said, "As long as you don't do any freaky things to me, sure."

Aveira laughed and shook her head. "No, not yet." She turned and walked back to the girl in the tank. "This is my new body. As soon as I can make a soul, I'll give it to her and transfer my brain patterns before the disease takes my life. I will be reborn."

Risus just looked amazed. He understood, but it was a little beyond belief. Then something registered. "Wait, what do you mean not yet?!"
