Near walked around, singing under his breath, "Happy birthday to me...happy birthday..." He did not understand why birthdays were celebrated. "Congradulations, you have one year less to live!" he muttered aloud. "How's that for happy?"

Rena had been walking along happily when she saw Near. Aveira stirred underneathe the surface. She had been Near's best friend until he had moved back to L.A. last year. Was he finally back?

Near kept muttering to himself. Kamisori sighed, but said nothing. Near shoved his hands in his pockets and didn't notice Rena.

"My host knows you. She missed you. But she's afraid you won't want to talk to her because you probably found out about who she was." She winced as Aveira sent her a death glare.

"I doubt it. I was cut off from all of humanity for a while. I didn't want to risk it..." he trailed off. Kamisori winced. There was still one causualty.

Rena tried to think of a way to discover if Near would change how he felt about Aveira once he found
out--and he would find out--that she had been KIRA without asking him directly. "Near-san, my host remembers you, as I've said. Would you consider anyone to ever have been your friend? She doesn't come out much anymore, but she misses people." There. Aveira wasn't known to miss people. He might not figure it out. Then again, he was L's succesor.

((Yes, I know I spelled that wrong. Don't make fun of my spelling skills (or lack thereof) please))

Near kept the grim smile in place. "Aveira was really my only close friend. She could have killed me thousands of times over and yet she didn't. I still owe her for that, and Kamisori."
